Diversity Days II

Last week at school Emerson learned all about the Chinese New Year and the Year of the Ox. To celebrate they made masks.

Today we re-visited the Chinese new year and proudly displayed the mask again!

During the educational portion (at school) Ms Anjulie said that Emerson and 1 other student were the only ones that would wear their masks! Em will do anything she is told to do at school, she is the teacher's pet. During "circle time" she always sits right on top of the teacher and mimics her every move. One day I want to come watch, I am sure it would be a treat.

When I was younger I too was the star pupil in Ms Cindy's home school classroom most likely because there were only 2 of us and a few stuffed animals! I was the 1 human that would not stand up or challenge Ms Cindy because I was a afraid of the consequences!

For those of you that do not know, Cindy's is my older sister (I was not home schooled, well at least not beyond age 4) and she was VERY serious about her classroom, curriculum and conduct. Ironically she followed her childhood dream - she majored in Elementary Education then went on to pursue a career in speech pathology! Now she analyzes my child making sure that her speech is not delayed but if you know me, you know my child WILL NOT be speech delayed! Should she ever have delays it will NOT be verbally!

Diversity Days

Today's education was about Customary Headdresses worn by women who reside in the Middle East!!

And I wander why I am late for work in the mornings. This is what I spend my time doing rather than getting ready!

Life and Times of The Woobie

Since Emerson was a bout 6 months she has been attached to a "woobie", you have probably seen it in many pictures. It is technically nothing more than soft burp cloth and it never looks ratty b/c she has 18 however she is only aware of 1! It all started when she was tiny & my mom would tell me to put a burp cloth by her face (the cloth diaper type) but I was afraid she would suffocate - I was petrified of SIDS so I found these smaller ones that seem to do the trick! When I first took her to daycare they called it "magic" b/c once given to her everything was good in the world! When Emerson is crying out of control and feeling totally out of sorts it is usually b/c she cannot find the woobie, once we realize this and give it to her all is good! At teh church nursery we forgot it a few times and Em was not a happy camper (she was clingy & whiny) and the care giver asked me if Emerson had a "lovey" that I could bring next time. I quickly stated that we have a "woobie" and yes I will bring it! Again, Emerson was a different child now that she had her woobie!

Look what we got!

Santa could not pull it off but we did get our kitchen after all equipped with not 1 but 2 refrigerators. We decided to convert one into a pantry which houses books! Ha-ha! I am grooming Emerson to be quite the housewife that I am!!

Cardborad and tape!

Earlier this morning I was downstairs while Emerson and Chris were playing upstairs. After I felt guilty enough to come relieve Chris of his duties, I came upstairs to find this. Let me remind you that this is NOT posed but rather reality - they are both asleep!!

Another weekend of cabin fever has sparked a creative side in Chris. Today we decided to make a "play house" for Emerson. This was very therapeutic for me as it brought back memories of a play house that I had as a little girl. My older siblings still have no idea the torment that they caused when they tore it down. For years I have dealt with this loss and now I am letting my grudges go as I live vicariously through Emerson playing in this cardboard box.
